Creamy Parmesan Pasta Recipe – The One The Family Asks For
The Pasta Dish Everyone in Our Family Loves
There are a lot of meals I make where most people are happy, and then there are the rare ones where everyone genuinely loves it. This creamy parmesan pasta is one of those. No negotiating, no “I’ll eat it but I won’t love it,” no side meals needed. In a family our size, that’s saying something.
It’s creamy, comforting, and simple… the kind of dish you make, and then keep coming back to because it just works for everyone!
What Goes into It
I’ll add the full recipe card at the bottom that you can print, but this is the basic ingredient list we use. Like most of our favorite meals, it’s flexible and forgiving.
Ingredients:
- Pasta (any but we usually use either egg noodles or brown rice fusilli)
- Butter
- Italian sausage (salt and pepper or hot, we usually use the hot)
- Onion
- Mushrooms
- Rosemary
- Sage
- Milk
- Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
That’s it. Nothing complicated, nothing hard to find.
It’s the kind of meal that works year-round, but is especially delicious when you want something warm and satisfying.
If You Don’t Eat Meat
This pasta adapts easily if you don’t eat meat. You can simply leave out the sausage and add extra mushrooms… they give the dish enough substance that it still feels satisfying. Simply pulse a pound of portabellas in a food processor to give the ground texture, then add another variety as the “mushrooms”.
If you want a little more body, a splash more milk and Parmesan helps keep it creamy without needing anything else. This isn’t a light pasta… it’s creamy and comforting, but it’s also balanced. The sausage adds depth, the mushrooms give it substance, and the herbs keep it from feeling heavy.
Why It Works for Real Life
This is one of those dishes that…
- Comes together quickly
- Doesn’t require perfect timing
- Reheats well
- Can be adjusted for taste (adding pepper flakes or substituting the meat)
It’s reliable. And when you’re cooking for a group with different preferences, that reliability is important.
A Few Things That Make It Easier
You likely have what you would need to make this but here are some tools and tips for this dish.
- I use my Lodge (made in U.S.) cast iron skillet for most of the recipe
- I use stainless-steel pot for the pasta, I like this one because it has a straining feature
- I use this Ninja food processor (we really run this thing hard)
- I use parmesan cheese that has no potato starch or other fillers
A Meal Worth Repeating
This is one of those dinners that earns its place by being loved, by everyone. It can go in the fall/winter rotation for sure and really could be a starting point for you to create something similar but even more loved by your family… maybe using ground beef and cheddar instead!
