Easy Halloween Mummy Craft
Making Mummies
Halloween is here, well almost, and here is a cute Halloween mummy craft that can be fun for the family and is great for teens! These mummies are easy to make, make a fun Halloween craft, and don’t require too many materials. They also are a great way to upcycle cans from canned goods.
What you will need
- 1 can for every mummy
- black construction paper
- googly eyes
- glue
- tape
- scissors
- gauze
How to Make Your Mummy
- The first thing to do is gather your supplies
- Next, measure the can and cut out the black construction paper from the bottom to the top, like shown above.
- Tape one side to the can. I actually only had painter’s tape on hand, but the tape will not be noticeable once the craft is completed. After taping the first piece, I also ran glue around the can, and pressed the paper to the can
- To help secure the paper, I again taped the edge
- Next, I glued the eyes on and allowed them to dry, I let them sit for about 10 minutes, though you could work faster, I just didn’t want them to move around once I started applying the gauze.
- Glue the edge of the gauze and start applying gauze. Make sure to work around the eyes. Once at the bottom I just tucked under the last loop around and dabbed some glue to hold.
- Lastly, I pulled a piece of gauze in the center to make a mouth, dabbed a bit of glue to hold, and pressed for a minute until it stayed on its own, though for variation you could leave some without mouths
Notes:
- As I said this is a great way to upcycle cans, but cans can be sharp. Use a can opener that eliminates that. Another option would to use another item. Styrofoam or plastic cups could be another great option.
- I used construction paper but you could use cardstock and if using a Styrofoam cup, you could use paint.
- These are great to make and with variations can be for everyone, but I like this craft for teens. It is hard to find fun things for teens to make and this is something they can make and sit on a shelf to use for pencils and pens.
Halloween Fun For Everyone
I added some candy and turned these into treat “bags” for a small party. These would be super fun to make at a party or to give to kids when they come trick or treating, depending on how many you get. We don’t get many trick or treaters, though if I start handing out things like this, I might 🙂 .
